"NHS v private"

About: Spire Southampton Hospital

I paid £10000 for a hip replacement in the Spire.

The only advantage was that I had, in my opinion, the best surgeon and I didn't have to wait 10 weeks.

I have friends who have had theirs on the NHS in the Spire and they got more than I did!

They had a visit from an Occupational Therapist which I did not have and one of them was shown a wine list which I did not see.

Everything else was exactly the same plus one was offered hydrotherapy by her physio which I had asked for and was refused.

Pain relief was inadequate (this is my second private operation in the Spire and the previous time 6 years ago I suffered no pain), and there were one or two other nursing issues.
