"My dads care in Ayr Hospital"

About: University Hospital Ayr / General Medicine

(as a relative),

My dad who had been in the hospital for three weeks died from his illness on Thursday. The staff were lovely and did everything they could to ensure he was well cared for. We would have preferred to have more information from doctors monitoring my dad but there was rarely an opportunity to speak to someone qualified to give an overview on dad's situation. My dad was often cold and frequently there were no extra blankets available. We took in our own to ensure he was cosy. When you're old and dying you feel the cold more. our hospital needs warm blankets.

Well done station 14- what a great team of people! Thank you Doctor Duncan for your care of dad.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Deb190,

I am so sorry your dad died from his illness and in hospital with these issues. Absolutely no one should be cold at any time in hospital, but particularly when they are dying. Also, having conversations about your dad's care should have been east to arrange, keeping you up to date through out.

With every post, we need to look at both the good and the bad so I am pleased you found some of the care to be so good. I will pass this to all the team for their information and reflection. If you would like me to arrange for you to discuss the issues you have raised, please contact me on Eunice.goodwin@aapct.sco.nhs.uk or call me on 01563 826222.

Kindest wishes,

Eunice
