"Treatment"

About: NHS Lothian

(as the patient),

I have a terminal lung condition to deal with, and on top of that I have gallstones which causes both billiard colic and colecystitis. The gallbladder is inoperable due to my lung damage making an anaesthetic extremely risky. At one point I had a just incase box, with injectible pain relief and anti-sickness drugs. This was removed by a new locum GP, without my even being told.

I have changed GPs after having issues with their attitude towards my treatment, and sadly the old GP advised the new GP not to take me as a patient as my case is "too complex". The new GP was forced to take me on and appears to be very resentful about this. The bottom line is that I am having agonizing gallbladder attacks and my GP refuses to prescribe proper pain relief, intact after my most recent appointment they told me if they wanted to tell me anything that they'd "write" to me so I don't need to keep going to see them. The problem is I have been left in a terrifying situation of pain that is so extreme that I pass out, but nobody is willing to help me or prescribe pain relief. I am completely disillusioned and now think that the NHS is more about numbers and figures than helping individuals. I already have a life limiting/terminal illness and now I know that whatever time I have left will be having these crippling attacks. I see no way out. When Drs deal with my case it's complex, but when I'm dealing with it, I've just to get on with it. An animal would not be left to suffer the way I have. Having been told to phone out of hours, they poor Drs come out and need to watch me in agony but they have no means to treat me and have to watch me in agony, as they don't carry pain relieving drugs. I'm at my wit's end and I'm weighing up my options

Dear Gothmum

I am so sorry to hear about your experiences, it sounds as though you are having a very difficult time, especially having a new GP at the same time you are describing that you are in so much pain.

The majority of GPs in Edinburgh and the Lothians are independent contractors and as a result have their own practice complaints processes. If you feel able, I would encourage you to speak to the Practice Manager, who should try to investigate your concerns.

I would also encourage you to speak to your GP about the pain that you are having so that they can try to help you and I do hope that you feel better soon.

Kind regards

Jeannette
