I reported to Ward 105 for Nissen Fundoplication Surgery. I was advised that I would be staying overnight following surgery.
I was booked in and at my bedside by 8am, the fantastic Staff HCPs/Staff Nurses did my admission paperwork and I was seen by my consultant before 09: 00 Hrs.
The Ward was immaculate, the system of admitting me to the ward was slick. The staff were the most professional people I have ever met. The trip to theatre via the anaesthetic room was awesome, I enjoyed good humour and reassurance.
My trip back to the ward was uneventful and I remained pain free. After several hours I started to feel pain but was given adequate pain relief within a couple of minutes. How did I feel. I am a Nurse, the ward did not know this. I have served on several operations in Iraq as a trauma team leader and a frontline medic, Afghanistan as a trauma team leader (Camp Bastion) and led a ream in Sierra Leone fighting Ebola.
Despite this I was really nervous about having surgery for the first time. I can not fault any aspect of my care on Ward 105 or the caring Ethos of The Royal Stoke University Hospital. I am proud that this is my local hospital, we have the finest Nurses/HCPs/Doctors and other support services around. I am healing well, and will never be anxious about ever requiring treatment again. Thank you Ward 105, I would work with each and everyone of you, you are a credit.
