"Ambulance admission into AE with rectal tumour"

About: West Middlesex University Hospital / Accident and emergency

Came in over the Easter weekend.

Due to bank holidays in patient pharmacy not 24 hrs. Surely a hospital must have 24 hour access to drugs. People get ill at all hours.

Noisey nurse station with nurses talking loudly about everything under the sun including discussing cases for all to hear. Good and bad encounters they've had.

Not good when you are trying to rest. Rectal problem and patient placed on hard surface bed in cubicle. Not good for comfort for this condition.

No pillows available. Water butt empty. Had to bring own water in. That happened before.

Patient in need of acute pain relief. Had an appointment next day which we suggested as she had level 10 pain and a bleeding rectum that she could stay in. No was the answer. She was sent home with morphine patch pinched from another department.

From first diagnosis over a week ago, there is a lack of help and support. We have been in a state of limbo where no one will take us under their wing. I know there has to be scans and assessments but with someone with this level of pain I thought the process would be joined up and quick. Seems an eternity.

We were left to go home and await scans following day and coming Tuesday.

Patient needs pain relief at hospital level as of now but no commitment as she doesn't fall under certain people's radar yet.
