"Very grateful for the care"

About: New Victoria Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

I recently had a cystoscopy + ureteroscopic stone removal for kidney stones. I had keyhole surgery to remove a stone 5 years previously at Glasgow Southern General, this time around I was referred to the new Victoria for my procedure. I arrived at 8am to check in for surgery, was taken along to the ward to change into my gown and waited by my bed until it was time for my procedure. There was another patient being attended to before me, I did have to sit and wait for just over 4 hours, which was a little frustrating but I understand that the other patients procedure was taking a little longer due to complications. By the time I was taken along for my procedure I was quite nervous even though I knew what to expect from last time, this is where I'd like to state how lovely the surgery staff were and made me feel at ease as I was receiving the anaesthesia and something to calm me down, all while the staff were nice enough to chat to me as I fell asleep.

I was told that I actually had one large stone and 2 smaller ones in my kidney as opposed to just the 1 that I thought I had. The nurse told me that there may be the chance that not all stones would be removed and that I would have to return if necessary to remove the excess. But thankfully, my procedure went according to plan and all were removed which I was very happy about and can't thank the staff enough for all their help and attentiveness during my overnight stay. Normally I dread being in hospitals, but my stay this time was actually very comfortable. I was discharged the next morning, pain free and very grateful for the care that was given!

Dear RMC94

Thank you for taking the time to post on Patient Opinion. I am pleased to read about how well your surgery went and that all the stones were removed. I am also pleased to read about the level of care you received whilst in our care in the New Victoria Hospital.

Many of our patients are nervous before surgery so reading about the way that staff helped to calm you is reassuring. I will ensure that your kind words about the staff are shared with them, they will be delighted to receive your feedback.

Best wishes
Lisa
