"Great birth experience."

About: Birmingham Women's Hospital / Maternity care

I gave birth to my son here on 30/03/2017 at 04:41 am and honestly the birthing experience could not be faulted!

Admittedly my appointments before hand were very tedious but I didn't let it affect when I went into labour.

The midwives over the phone were extremely helpful when I called to say I was in labour and offered really good advice for staying at home, when I told them my pain was too bad they let me come in and put me straight on the birth center for maximum comfort and were extremely relaxed about my partner and my mother and mother in law remaining with me.

They moved me up to the ward a couple of hours later to free up the birthing room as I was still in very early labour, they were very friendly and polite the entire time and very informative with all their information.

My only gripe at this point was that I was not checked for dilation from 10:30am til 10:00pm, I don't know if this is normal but when I made the midwife aware of this they were very surprised and instructed that I was taken back to the birth centre straight away.

I laboured in comfort with my absolutely excellent, friendly and supportive midwife from approx 10pm - 4:41am and I honestly could not fault her they were incredible and my partner was also extremely impressed and we intend to put in a good ward to whoever is suitable? I'm not sure where I can do this.

I had a water birth and the service and care was incredible. It was a very relaxed environment and I felt like I was given a lot of independence but close care the whole time.

My recovery took a long time and I was extremely weak afterwards but I was not rushed and I was given very very close surveillance by all the midwives who were excellent, my bedding was changed very regularly and tea and toast were always given when I asked.

I am so impressed by the experience and apologies were always provided when I had to wait a long time but I was willing to be patient when waiting for doctors etc as I knew they were extremely busy.

I would recommend anyone this hospital.
