"Staff are outstanding on ward 3E!"

About: Whiston Hospital / Gynaecology

After finding out I was pregnant I immediately knew I wanted to have my baby at Whiston hospital. I had my initial appointment & blood tests & then booked my first scan. Heartbreaking the week before my scan date I had a tiny bleed & was asked to attend BEP clinic for an internal scan. The scan showed that I was measuring 11 weeks but my baby only 8 weeks & there was no heartbeat. I was in shock & completely heartbroken. As this is classed as a missed miscarriage I was given options of how to manage the miscarriage. I chose to go with the ERPC. My appointment for the operation was 6 days after receiving the news, and in a horrid twist of fate, what should have been my scan date. I was due in at 7am but was taken in at 1am due to me suffering severe pains which frightened me as I thought I would start passing everything myself. I was admitted to the ward immediately & the staff could not have been better. I was seen by several doctors, nurses & the anaesthetist. They were all exceptional & provided me with the best care. I was so scared of having an operation & also really upset of the loss of our first baby. I was reassured at every turn & the anaesthetist sat with me for around 10 minutes to talk me through the operation. The nurse who was with me from my room to theatre & stayed with me holding my hand & talking to me before I drifted off to sleep was an angel. The nurse reminded me of my mum, they made me feel so safe in a time of despair & heartbreak. When I woke up from the operation there was another 2 young nurses & again they were both amazing, chatting away to me & making me feel safe. The care I received from start to finish was exceptional. I can't thank them all enough for taking such good care of me during the most difficult time I've ever gone through as a woman. I was treated with complete dignity & respect. I wish I could remember all of their names so I could thank them all personally. Each & every one of them are a credit to their profession. Thank you so much.
