"No transport arranged to help get my wife home"

(as the patient),

I went to the Northampton General Hospital with my wife. We are both in our eighties and my wife has diabetes. This morning she feel in the hall way. I had to dress her and ring for an ambulance as well as try to stop the bleeding. We arrived at the hospital at quarter to six, the medical and nursing care was very good and we were given a cup of tea.

My wife had to go home in a wheel chair, I am in my eighties and could not manage to push her in the wheel chair. I asked the nurses if transport could be arranged to take us home. I was told that this would be no problem and that it would be arranged. We were taken down to the discharge area at quarter past nine. When we got there, no one knew anything about transport for us to get home and we were told that if we did want an ambulance, then it would be a very long wait. I was very annoyed and felt that I had been lied to and treated with no respect. One young man said to me 'How do you usually manage?' there was no help at all, very rude. I got my son, who had hired a car that week, to collect us. The nurse pushed the wheel chair to the car, it was very difficult to get my wife into the car. We eventually left the hospital at 10.30am. Though the medical care was good, I was very angry that it seemed I had been lied to about transport.
