"I marvelled at how well I was treated"

About: York Hospital / Accident and emergency York Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as the patient),

I had an accident tiling a bathroom and got a free taxi (ambulance) to york district hospital to repair my severe right wrist. With so many negative stories about the NHS in the media I felt I wanted to balance things out, to some degree, with a truly positive one.

From the minute the ambulance was called to my follow up appointment today I have nothing but praise for the unbelievable professionalism and attitude everyone from the cleaners to the surgeon (dr p lim) showed me in york district hospital. This includes all the staff on follow up appointments (Mr Barboro - physio) and all the admin staff.

In terms of how I felt, well I was severely injured, was going to miss my only holiday (golfing) of the year in ten days time yet instead of feeling sorry for myself I marvelled at how well I was treated.

10 days later I returned with 2 large boxes of Thornton chocolates for everyone on the ward to share and so I could express my gratitude to them all.

Update posted by Jez J (the patient)

Thank you Jacqueline for getting back to me. The paramedic who arrived first was awesome and the girls in the ambulance had to suffer my moaning about being put to sleep. This was all done professionally with much needed humour from them so thank you so much once more.
