"Severe pain following Discectomy"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Trauma & orthopaedics (wards 26, 27, 61 & 62 )

(as the patient),

I had a discectomy in April 2016 and I must have fooled myself for the first 6 weeks after surgery that it had been a success. I contacted Glasgow Royal Infirmary in January this year but I have been informed that I cannot see my surgeon/consultant, and so I have to start right back at the very beginning. My GP has referred me but I've not heard anything as yet. I am in extreme pain 24/7 and cry with the pain everyday. I can't walk properly, I can't cough properly ( it rips the base of my spine), My leg is useless, swollen and so, so painful. All I want is to be pain free, or to get some respite from the pain, . I want my life back.

Dear Severepain

I am sorry to read that you are still in pain after your surgery and the impact this is having on you.

I am concerned that you have not heard anything yet from the hospital.

Can you please contact me at Nicole.McInally@ggc.scot.nhs.uk with some personal details including your date of birth so that we can look into this further?

Kind Regards

Nicole

Dear SeverePain

I am sorry to hear that your earlier surgery was unsuccessful and that you are in extreme pain. I would suggest that you speak to your GP about how to manage your pain.

The reason that you could not see your consultant/surgeon was that you would have been discharged from the service, therefore, the process is that patients would have to be re-referred by their GP.

I have been advised that you have an appointment for 11th July and you will receive a letter confirming this.

Kind Regards
