"Plastic Surgery Breast reconstruction"

About: Southmead Hospital

I cannot recommend this unit and it's staff highly enough. At a time when your world has all but imploded upon itself and you need guidance, reassurance a full understanding of your options after the devastation of being diagnosed with Breast Cancer, having dealt with treatment!, mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy to be greeted with openness, honesty and reality was a relief. To have people speak to you like a person again and not an illness means you can begin to believe that there is life after cancer. Whether those options involve reconstruction or not, there is light at the end of the tunnel. In my case reconstruction WAS an option and one I chose to undertake. I had many, many appointments and never left any of those with anything but optimism and the belief that my decision was always the one that was going to be listened and acted on. I was never pressurized and always knew that right up until the time I went under the anesthetic I could still change my mind. Every member of the Plastic Surgery Breast reconstruction unit was helpful, informed, and compassionate where needed. It is so very vital for this unit to be kept available for every woman who needs it. I realize that it is possibly an over used cliche but every woman is someone's Mother, Sister, Aunt, Niece, Wife, Lover or even just a Friend and can any of us imagine that person whom we love being denied the right to feel whole and a women agian because of NHS changes/reorganization or cuts. The care I received was without a shadow of doubt WORLD class and I cannot thank everyone who looked after me enough, from the beginning at Frenchay Hospital, during the unenviable upheaval of moving to a new hospital to the new state of the art Southmead. A heart felt THANK YOU. Plastic Surgery Breast Reconstruction. Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.
