"My 17 year old daughter had bleed to her brain"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Accident & Emergency Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Critical Care Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / General surgery (Wards 9a, 9b, 9c & 9d)

(as a parent/guardian),

At 10 am in morning my daughter came down stairs to go to work within minutes she complained of terrible head pain I gave her 2 paracetamol and she started to throw up my partner then said get her in car we are taking her to royal. We were on our way to royal which is about 15 min drive during this time she started to slip in out consciousness. My partner started to go through red lights n stuff till we got her to royal on arriving at royal there was 2 paramedics outside they ran over and asked what was wrong by this time she was unresponsive they took her straight to resus they came bk few minutes later saying they were treating her for meningitis the doctor came said he was taking her for scan in which he returned said it was bleed to brain she was seriously ill they were already in talk with southern general and they had to transfer her to there but she was so sick they had to put her on life support as it was very dangerous to transfer her over but the best team was waiting on other side to do operation this went ahead and we got to southern.

She had her first operation to stop bleed to brain and she had drain inserted when doctor came and spoke to us he told us she also had AVM which was causing the bleed and she would hv to be given another operation at later date. My gorgeous baby girl was so ill she was in intensive care high dependency then she was admitted up to ward 63 she gradually got bit better over days then she had to go through 7 hour op to remove AVM this luckily went very well too. My daughter has now made full recovery and we r home to think a few weeks ago she was fighting for her life I cannot thank staff at royal A@E. enough the staff in intensive care high dependency and ward 63 they are all amazing people the care commitment kindness and love they gave to my family was amazing. Mr st George and his team OMG he is a god in my eyes he saved my babies life this guy is amazing they all are u don't realise till ur in this situation how hard these guys work to help get patients better il never forget the staff at hospital for everything they did for us as I also stayed the whole time with my daughter too every day my daughter is getting stronger but she is a miracle and mr st George and his team are amazing

Hi Mumtoamiracle

Thank you for taking the time to post such positive comments.

What a relief for you that all has turned out well for your daughter and what a worrying time it must have been. Sounds like your swift action getting her to GRI paid off.

Ill pass on your thanks to the team at ward 63 and to MrStJohn. Please pass our best wishes to your daughter for a speedy recovery

Kind regards

Ann
