"My faith in the last 10-15 years"

About: St Andrew's Healthcare

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

In the last 10-15 years my faith has grown and I attend the local Catholic Church  where the local Deacon meets me. Sometimes I find it hard to pray as I have to be in the right mind-set and on the ward there can often be distractions such as noise or people.

I would like to be involved with charity and sometimes donate clothes to charity shops. I have seen Save the Children text campaigns and would donate but we are not allowed mobile phones on the ward.

I have found that confession and talking about my sins with the chaplains helps me to feel repentant and move on from my experiences. I have done this now two or three times.

I go to the church every two to three weeks.

When a woman from the church used to come and visit, she used to come and see me once a week to give me the sacrament but now the Father only comes once every two to three weeks. I wish this would be once a week again but I understand that he is a busy man.

When I want to go to the Mass in the Multi-Faith Room I sometimes cannot as there isn’t enough staff to escort me to the room. I’m thankful that the local deacon is willing to take me to the local church, and I’m glad that I see someone at least once a week to have a chat.

For chaplaincy to help me, I would like to be able to have catholic mass each week. I would also like to go and visit the parish I feel comfortable with however it isn’t very near and therefore I need extra leave so may struggle. Sometimes the Father doesn’t turn up when he has said he will.
