"RVI hospital eye department"

About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary / Ophthalmology

I noticed that there are a lot of negative comments about the wait times etc. at this department and thought I would leave a positive comment based on experiences

I have been attending the eye hospital for the last 4 years, I have not counted but on I would be confident on saying I have attended at least 50 appointments.

with regards to waiting times, yes it is long and yes it would be great if we could all be seen straight away. what people don't understand is, just like every other place in the hospital there can be emergencies, staff sickness etc. it sometimes does take a while in this department and I would say to you either you wait or you don't but don't blame the staff as they are always working hard. yes sometimes there are slip ups and mistakes but that's life, we are all human.

my advice would be to turn up on time, I turn up 30 minutes before every appointment because I know that I will be triaged first before seeing the doctor. This happens to everyone. I currently see two members of staff. I don't mind the fact that I can wait a long time or whether my actual check up can take a while either. Knowing my DR takes time and covers all options is surely a good thing.

Take a book/magazine/headphones and a smile on your face.
