"Confusion over waiting times"

About: Wythenshawe Hospital / Vascular surgery

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

This story has been posted by Healthwatch Tameside on behalf of a member of the public. We have their details and will forward any comments to them. They said…

Gentleman had been waiting for Wythenshawe Hospital to arrange procedure for vascular procedure since June. He was told that he would have to wait for about 12 weeks. After about 16 weeks he had not heard anything. PALS were contacted, who said that the waiting time was 30 weeks and the patient had been on the list 19 weeks. This gentleman had been added to the routine waiting lists when he thought that he had been added to the urgent list. The procedure was carried out mid January 2017.

The patient says that he is really happy with the outcome. He felt well cared for and said that staff at the hospital were very supportive of his wife whilst she was waiting for him to come back to the ward after the procedure. He cannot praise them enough. He said that they really looked after him. The only problem was the length of time that he had to wait and the confusion over waiting times.
