On 10th Nov 2016 my wife broke her ankle while on holiday in Harrogate. She was admitted to Harrogate Hospital where after exrays she was told she had 2 broken bones and they would have to operate. However the next day she was told they had decided an operation wasn't necessary and would contact Basselaw Hospital to arrange a transfer. The transfer was arranged on 12th Nov but they said they didn't have transport, so my daughter and husband drove up from Worksop to transport her. They were told to find a wheelchair and make sure her leg was elevated at all times. No assistance was offered and my daughter and husband had to handle her to get in the car. On arrival at Bassetlaw it was completely different. They were ready to accept us and admitted her to ward B5 straight away. She was exrayed and told they were bad breaks and an operation was needed, which they would do the next day (Sunday). However there was an emergency on Sunday, but they operated on the Monday morning, having to insert plates and screws. I can only assume that Harrogate didn't want the expense of operating, and dread to think what would have been the outcome if she had stayed there, as after 10 weeks, despite the care given at Bassetlaw she is still unable to bear weight on her ankle. After our experience we cannot rate Harrogate at all but give Bassetlaw top marks for their care and assistance. Brian Mundy.
