"Abnormal cells in sample after cervical smear test"

About: Crawley Hospital / Gynaecology East Surrey Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

In early January I had my final cervical smear test (I am now 64) and on less than two weeks later had a call from GP to say they had been told of abnormal cells result and I was being referred to gynaelogical department.

Three days after the call from my GP I got call from Crawley Hospital they had an appointment for me the next day at 9. 10am. Got there had a history taken by consultant Dr Z. Ameen (a lovely empathetic young lady) and then an internal examination and because I had seen some spotting in the previous days I had a vaginal scan internally and a scan on my lower stomach.

They said I would need a hysteroscopy and could I come back at 4. 40pm. I did,  had a lovely doctor and two nurses who put me at my ease - told me to tell them if I needed to take a break or for them to stop etc. I don't know the name of doctor who did the procedure but she was awesome, the pictures were interesting as well.

I now have to have an MRI, have appointments for pre-op and also a date for my procedure which may be removal of large polypt or? ? ? whatever the biopses or MRI show on Feb 24 - a month from start to I hope a satisfactory conclusion.

This experience of NHS is so positive with great staff at Crawley Hospital and also the appointments team at East Surrey Hospital. Please pass on my story to the people who are worried about this procedure and also to say thank you so far to NHS for prompt action.
