I was admitted to the induction ward at East Surrey due to high blood pressure and was told I had to stay over night until tests came back which would verify whether I had preeclampsia. The induction ward was worst than I had feared. A stressful and sleepless night for me listening to a girl in agonising labour pain all evening with just a curtain between us. Exhausted from no dinner and no sleep (even with earplugs) I was told I could be induced at 6am. I politely refused and asked to see a doctor as I hadn't been given my test results yet from the day before. When the doctor came round I was finally told I had preeclampsia and that an induction was the best solution. I was then visited by a sarcastic midwife who said 'happy to have the induction now?!' I replied that this was the first time I had been told for definite that I had preeclampsia. They quickly apologised saying they hadn't realised I hadn't been informed before, and thought it strange as they had known my results from the night before. My induction happened very quickly and I went into full on contractions shortly after. I had to labour on this noisy ward in a cramped bay with little room to move around with only curtains for privacy, these kept being left slightly open by midwives and my partner had to keep yanking them shut for privacy so the man across from me couldn't see in. I was acutely aware of everything around me, couples in other bays laughing and chatting away, someone clipping their toes nails at one point! I was so stressed out that people could hear me in pain and were laughing at me, one midwife included! I believe this added to my anxiety and contributed to my already high blood pressure. I was only in labour for about 7 hours (small mercy!), but only taken to the delivery suite for the last couple of hours, it was too late for an epidural by then I was told. I would like to say that I think it's disgusting women who are induced are not moved into private rooms when they are in this much pain in labour. It was like torture being on that induction ward. Totally stripped of all dignity. The delivery suite was like heaven in comparison. I just wanted privacy. I wish they had moved me there earlier. Two hours of privacy? I feel massively cheated and wonder if actually many woman end up giving birth in this ward or on route to the delivery suite. If you don't need an induction other than being a bit overdue I wouldn't recommend having one here it will drive you insane.
"The induction ward? Worst than I had feared."
