"Disagreement about my treatment"

About: Balfour Hospital / General Psychiatry

(as the patient),

My story is a long one. I went to the psychiatrist for help because I have d.i.d (Dissociative identity disorder) and have had to move away from the area that my therapist stays in.

This psychiatrist doesn't know me but within 2 visits (approx 40 mins) had decided I should see a therapist who I believe doesn't have any experience of treating d.i.d and doesn't want to learn about it. But the psychiatrist says that's not true, and has decided that they have the power to make judgements and decisions about me.

The psychiatrist refuses to speak to anyone who has known me over the years and has told me that my counsellor, who is my only support and trained in treating d.i.d, is no good for me. The psychiatrist is refusing to allow me to gain funding to see someone who is either willing or trained in treating people with d.i.d. The only person consulted was my GP who also doesnt know me.

I feel sick and tired of fighting with people. There is argument about d.i.d, whether it is a diagnosis and how we are treated. I feel the psychiatrists need to sort it out. If they don't agree with the diagnosis they should refer you to some one that does agree and knows how to treat it.

It's not the patients' fault that they can't come to an agreement. I feel that because I challenged the psychiatrist I am now being referred for a second opinion. I don't need a second opinion, I just need the right help and support. Surely if the patient feels it is working that should be good enough for them?
