(as a carer),

I have entered this under the title of 'suggestion'. Well here it is - a person who suffers with mental illness to the extent that they have been prescribed anti psychotic medication requires professional care, support and therapy.

Suggestion - Provide it.

My husband's CPN (Community Psychiatric Nurse) retired over 12 months ago and he is still waiting to be assigned to another nurse. The trust, 5 Boroughs, are more than aware of this as he has complained a number of times but has now been told there isn't enough CPN's so you may not get one.

Is it the policy of 5 Boroughs to therefore cast seriously ill people to one side and expect their partner's to provide the treatment? If so, I am advising 5 Boroughs that most carers do NOT have the training, experience or strength to do this in addition to being responsible for everything else within a household.

Another suggestion - If a carer tries to apply for the carer's grant via email, to pay for a weekend respite, have the decency to answer the email.

My husband has been left without the necessary care and treatment identified by 5 Boroughs and as a carer, I feel I have been completely ignored. I am exhausted and on the point of a breakdown myself. I am also angry and dismayed.

I am now taking advice as to what my husband is legally entitled to.

We are really concerned to hear about your experience of our services.

As a trust we recognise the valuable role carers undertake in looking after family and friends when they are poorly, often alongside other demanding roles. We agree with you that the care you provide should not be taken for granted and should not be in place of the treatment your husband needs from our services.

We would like the opportunity to meet with you to apologise personally for any failings on our part and to make sure your husband recieves the care and treatment he needs from us.
