"ENT doctor did not listen to my concerns"

About: Royal Edinburgh Hospital Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Ear, Nose & Throat

(as the patient),

At the beginning of the year I was having problems with my left ear. I attended doctor who informed me of infection and treated with antibiotics. Continued to have problem and attended doctor and was treated with another course of antibiotics, problems persisted. On attending third appointment was referred to ENT Edinburgh.

After waiting three months finally received appointment with audiologist. I was given hearing test and told I needed hearing aids. My hearing has always been a bit weak so I accepted this news.

However, despite this I am totally convinced that there is something further wrong with left ear. I was given appointment with doctor and attend last Thursday. This doctor was running 35 minutes late so I waited. When I was seen, I felt that they barely looked at my ears and then they told me there was nothing wrong apart from I was going deaf. I voiced my concern acknowledging the fact that I perhaps needed hearing aids but I was totally convinced that there was something more going on in left ear. They told me I would need to see a specialist. I was under the impression that I was seeing a specialist. I felt like they did not listen, did not care and in my opinion they could not get me out of their door quick enough.

After being dealt the blow of being told I am going deaf at 42 years old and then being treated in this matter I am very angry. I am contacting ENT to complain so I will see how I get on with that. I have paid my national insurance since I was 17 years old, never been to hospital for any complaint and was looking for someone to help but this is how I get treated.
