"The psychiatrist lost my trust"

About: Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health

(as the patient),

I saw a psychiatrist at Yewcroft for various problems I was having. One of these was that when I was younger I had been self-harming.

I had an appointment where he and I thought it might be helpful to have my mum there, even though I was 20/21 at the time. I specifically asked him not to mention the self harm to her as it was in the past, when I was in primary and high school, and I thought it would distress her and make it an issue when it hadn't been for years.

He said he disagreed with this but wouldn't mention it. In the appointment, he brought it up.

I didn't go back. No trust, so what's the point?

The whole experience of being seen there didn't help at all.
