"good job I read his notes!"

About: Wexham Park Hospital / Accident and emergency

Husband admitted to A&E in agony and told there was a 10 hour wait to see doc. as so short of staff . Finally admitted with gall stones, was in for a week when they managed to leave a drip in for over 5 days and cause issues with hand as it should have been moved.I looked at his notes after op was cancelled twice and it said he had had successful surgery and was discharged that day! I was sitting next to him in hospital and had to call the sister to check the notes, they said a student must have filled it in ! Told to eat a fat free diet in hospital ! Have you seen your menus? There are no fat free or low fat marked options. Food is inedible and many patients have specific dietary requirements. Low fat is not an odd one so why is it not catered for? Was then told liquid diet only and was offered a soup that was so creamy it was not low fat or wait for it a bowl of gravy as these were the only options-since when has gravy been low fat or a meal !!!

A patient needs good nutrition to get better and this is ridiculous, it does not have to be expensive to be edible. Surely you could get a dietitian to plan your meals .Staff are lovely and very kind when you can find them but they are very thin on the ground and the communication between them and with the patients -who seem to be the last person actually told what is going on leaves a lot to be desired. Gall bladder has finally been removed at another hospital . Given a choice I would not choose to use this hospital despite the fact it seems improved in recent months as I felt no-one actually told the patient what was going on, it seemed to be unimportant and added to the stress levels.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback on your husband's stay in November 2015.

I'm sorry for his experience and I'm sorry that you didn't feel able to talk to us sooner about the problems you encountered.

We are changing our provider of catering services at Wexham Park Hospital from 1st Feb 2017 and I will feed your comments into the team to ensure low fat options are clear. I'll share the rest of your comments with the Head of Nursing for Surgery to ensure that all staff are reminded of the importance of good communication with the patient.

Once again I apologise for your husband's experience

Kind Regards

Claire Marshall

Head of Patient Experience
