"Blocking websites stops me from researching my areas of interest"

About: St Andrew's Healthcare Garden Cottage

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I am on garden Cottage and hope that I should be leaving here in about 2 years. Garden Cottage is very pleasant and is a smaller place. There are three others living with me with is much better as there were many more patients on the wards. It suits me better with less people and meets my needs. There are a few things that matter to me. I love reading, I bible study and learn a lot from reading and love to do this. I use a lot of specialist books which I buy from amazon. I can go onto google and search but I have to get someone; a clerk to order them for me. I really like history and love to learn now. it was different 15 years ago, I was completely different. I guess it is at a certain point in your life that you become interested in different things. Sometimes when I am researching, The things of interest get blocked by St Andrew's. I think we are privileged to have access to the internet as the education teacher had to fight tooth and nail to get access for us. I was studying the history and principles of vacuum brakes, locomotives and clicked on the link and St Andrew's blocked it. This was very frustrating. How can we get things unblocked so I can study and research my interests. ? Some of the topics that they block seem strange and this restricts me from doing my research. I also want to know why we can't access the intranet at weekends. I would like a response to how can we get things unblocked please.

Thank you for your comment. Access to the internet is very important this day and age and at St Andrew's we try to ensure that our patients get appropriate access to the internet when they need it. However, this needs to be monitored closely as it can be used for good and for bad. We are currently working on how we can improve our service in this area so that it is more accessible and safe. I will ensure that you are kept up to date with progress in this area.
