"Doctor helped me with my period pains"

About: Rotherham PCT

(as the patient),

My tummy pains were period pains. I didn’t know that they were period pains but my support worker (I have learning disabilities) took me to the doctors. I hadn’t met the doctor before but she told me who she was and smiled at me. She asked me if I had period pains a lot. I didn’t know if every time my tummy hurt it was period pains but it might be. She told me I can take painkillers or a different pill if it hurts badly and that a hot water bottle might make me feel better. I’ve tried a hot water bottle and sometimes it does help and sometimes it doesn’t. The doctor gave me some leaflets but I can’t read them so I put them in the bin.

I am sorry to hear about your bad period pains.

I am going to ask some of the other staff here to tell me how we can help you, and if there are any better leaflets or information we can get for you.

When I know about this I will put the information here.
