"NHS referal - They dont care"

About: Blackheath Hospital

I was referred to the Ears Throat and Nose Clinic. There was a month wait for this place, but a six weeks wait for other regular NHS hospitals. The day before the appointment I had a voice mail cancelling with no reasons why, and automatically rescheduled for just over a month later. Phoned up to enquire, but they were unable to provide a reason. However, if I wanted to pay, I could be seen later that day or early next week with the same consultant. Now rescheduled with a regular hospital as not convinced they care and expected that they would cancel on me again, at the whim of the consultant. They seem to have a complete disregard for NHS referred patients. You would expect that if a consultant had cancelled, they would fit in the let-down patients into their private appointments, but obviously not, as that would mean missing out on potential money. loads of money. good on them.

I am very sorry to read the experience of this patient as it is certainly not what I would have expected. We at BMI The Blackheath are proud to be able to provide a service for NHS patients and I would not expect their appointments to be cancelled for anything other than exceptional reasons that would apply to both NHS and private. I am very sorry to hear that once the appointment was cancelled it appears they were offered an earlier date if they changed to private, as this is certainly not our policy. I would very much like to investigate this further and would be grateful if the person concerned would contact me – Paula Friend, Executive Director BMI The Blackheath Hospital.
