"Very good experience of the hospital"

About: Rotherham Hospital / Breast surgery

(as the patient),

I had a very good experience of the hospital. I had a breast lump removed at the Day Surgery Centre at Rotherham General Hospital. I was very worried about it all; particularly the general anaesthetic. The anaesthetist was really nice and put me at ease, explained everything before operating and asked if I had any questions, and was very professional and clear what would happen.

I had quite a wait because there were 2 other people before me but it was ok. The general anaesthetist didn’t make me sick or dizzy, just sleepy. I was surprised that it wasn’t awful. I was dreading it. The best thing was the tea and toast when I woke up. The nurse who looked after me was lovely.

When I was discharged another nurse gave me lots of advice and medication for pain/inflammation. I think it is good that they are changing the day surgery to separate men/women because I was in the waiting room with 2 men which was a bit weird when I was in a dressing gown! Just would like to say thanks!

Thanks for sharing your story - comments like yours can be really helpful for others in the same situation who may be worried.

My colleagues at the hospital will pass your kind comments on to the staff involved, and I am sure will provide updates in the future around how they are ensuring privacy for men and women as the changes they are planning are put into place.
