"Day surgery at North Devon District Hospital"

About: North Devon District Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I recently had elective surgery at North Devon District Hospital to remove my gall bladder.

The admissions process was efficient. I was treated with respect and kept well informed about procedures at all times. After surgery I had to stay in recovery for an extended period because of a shortage of beds. However the care I received there was excellent and the staff made sure I had sufficient food and drink. I was later transferred to the Day Unit where the discharge procedure was carried out efficiently.

The only slight difficulty was that when my husband phoned the numbers he had been given, to enquire about coming to collect me, nobody seemed to know where I was and it took several calls to locate me.

Overall I think the standard of care was excellent.
