"No gripes of any kind"

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital / Accident and emergency East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as the patient),

Each Thursday my wife and I do our week's grocery shopping. Just before leaving home on the day in question I had some discomfort behind the Breastbone which I thought could be angina. I gave myself two sprays of Nitromin "to be on the safe side" and immediately started to feel very weak and woozy.

Within about 30 seconds I must have passed out because when I came-to I was sprawled on the floor. After lying there for about 15 minutes I stood up and straightaway passed-out again. At which point my wife sent for the ambulance.

From there on, the treatment by the paramedics and at the hospital was first class. No gripes of any kind. Maybe I was lucky in as much as I seemed to have arrived at a not so busy time and the only wait was for a Head-scan. As for recommending Chesterfield A&E to friends and relatives, certainly I would without hesitation if it became necessary, but I'd rather it wasn't, ever, and they went to the South of France.

It sounds like you’ve just had a very frightening time, so I was really pleased to read your comments about the treatment you received in our emergency department.

You would certainly have been a ‘real emergency’ after collapsing with chest discomfort, so you would have been a priority for treatment on arrival.

I love the comment ‘no gripes of any kind’ – you can’t say fairer than that! I hope you’re feeling much better and are ready for Christmas celebrations! I will make sure the team in ED see your post and thank you again for sharing your thoughts.

With kind regards Sarah Turner-Saint, head of communications
