"The cleanliness of the ward instilled ..."

About: Wrightington Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The cleanliness of the ward instilled confidence in the staff's attitude to hygiene generally. Constant hand washing and bed changing made me feel safe and comfortable. The staff went about their hard work with humour when appropriate. The food was much better than I expected. I was happy to be in an open ward where I met interesting people and had some great conversations. The Physio team were excellent. Their approach was caring though professional and not without some humour. I was treated with dignity throughout my stay and I never felt embarrassed. I don't want to go back as a patient for obvious reasons although if I do need any further similar surgery in the future I will choose to go to Wrightington Hospital.

What could be improved

Closer liaison between the Occupational Therapy Dept and the patients Local Auithority to ensure that all necessary equipment is in place before returning home. The only slip up in the whole process resulted in me waiting (still waiting 2 weeks later) for my chair to be raised to the correct height. If the OT had ensured that the chair was examined & measured before hospitalisation it might have been ready on time. All other equipment was delivered before hospitalisation.

Anything else?

I will hear no criticism of the NHS or its staff. There is no doubt that they do everything they can given the limited resources they have in the same way as the Education and Police agencies.
