I gave birth to my second daughter in April 2016. Two weeks prior to this I had reduced movements, although the staff in Westburn Ward were struggling the care I got was amazing. I was traced constantly for around 12 hours with the choice of being induced or to monitor movements over the next week.
Things improved and I went into labour myself. My contractions were very mild and I could cope well at home, I wanted to see how many cm I was dilated. At 5:30 I decided to go home with advice of midwife in the midwives unit, however on the way home things picked up rapidly and by the time we had got home and called then labour ward again I was in a lot of pain and without hesitation I was told to come back in and if my waters broke or I felt I needed to push we would have to pull over and call for an ambulance because they had one on stand by (second babies tend to come faster apparently).
I got to the hospital at 7: 50pm I was examined and I was 4cm dilated, at 8: 10 my waters broke and at 8: 24 my daughter was born without any pain relief because things happened so fast, the sister midwife kept me very calm and focused.
The care I received by everybody in the labour Ward, midwives unit and Westburn Ward was amazing. After care and help to breastfeed was very good too.
I have now had two very positive birthing experiences in Aberdeen and I always tell other mums to be about my births because I really couldn't fault the work done by the incredible hard working staff at Aberdeen maternity.
