"Sugar allowance - Ashby Ward"

About: Locked & Specialist Rehab / Ashby Ward

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I am a patient on low secure. Recent changes have occurred which I feel are not correct regarding the amount of sugar we are allowed to have. It has been cut down to 3 sugars in one cup due to another patient having excessive amounts of sugar. I understand why the situation has occurred, also I think it should be done on an individual basis and not a blanket rule.

I have tried to resolve the issue with the dietician but he knew nothing about it.

Thank you for letting us know about the situation with sugar allowance. I have spoken with the Nurse Manager who has stated the following:

'Following discussion with both staff and patients the issue with regards to access to sugar is now to be assessed on an individual basis with advice from the Dietician and will be based on our duty of care with regards to the patient’s physical health.'

I hope this has resolved the issue for you. I agree that all decisions should be made on an individual basis, so thank you for raising this with us
Lynn
