After suffering abdominal pain I visited my GP, around 12 hours later with my pain getting worse I called NHS24 for advice. I was advised to go to the out of hours service at IRH. I saw a lovely kind GP in the early hours - can't remember his name. He arranged for me to be admitted and then I went through to A/E while they found me a bed and organised an ultrasound.
I was cared for in ward HNorth by Mr Hannay's team. I had my inflamed gallbladder removed the next day and was well enough to hobble home the day after that,
The NHS is unfairly criticised- it was there when I needed it.
The whole team was fantastic, the nursing teams, the surgical team, theatre staff (they were able to put me at ease).
When I was able to eat and drink again the domestic noted that I hadn't drank my tea and asked me if it was all right, I told her I just prefer weaker tea- she went straight away and made me a fresh cup and each time tea was served she made mine weaker. Our 4 bedded bay & loo was immaculately kept by the domestic. I only ate one breakfast and one lunch - both served with a smile, my beef casserole and potatoes was delicious.
The porters that took me to scans and theatre were cheery and efficient.
All in all very efficient and much appreciated care when I needed it most.
