"Distressing birth experience"

About: St Mary's Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

It is a very tragic story to talk about.... being a medical professional myself, I am in a very fortunate position to state the facts without any confusions.

It was me and my husbands first born, as my husband was born in the same hospital back in 1979 he wanted his son to be born at the same hospital, even though me not going along with the idea....

Any ways.... getting to the point. An absolutely healthy pregnancy, my baby weight was 4. 9kg (upon scanning) this means baby is big! ... I start getting labour pains on a quiet Friday morning at 6am. ... we go to the hospital in the evening as I was told by my friends that they would not entertain me at this point I have to have severe pains... so we go at 2am Saturday morning where they admitted me when I really asked to be admitted thinking that yes I would be monitored by medically qualified staff.... so I am there in the ward by 4am pains were severe and unbearable I ask for help....a staff member does a finger check on me and says I am not dilated.... and I am not able to take the pain... Kindly note I had crossed 24 hours in labor pains by now.... in prime pains are no longer then 14 hours.... the whole day of Saturday begging the hospital to help and deliver the baby or just knock me out with a big hammer, the same staff member comes and tells me they only had paracetamol... for a woman who already crossed 24 hours in labour....

Now we are at 11pm Saturday night while me and my baby struggling for our lives.... a senior midwife comes and does a finger exam and starts yelling staff that I should be in a delivery suite.... then they rush me to the delivery room where my baby's heart beat went down to 45 beats per minute.... and I had lost all the water from my womb since Friday early morning...finally when my baby's heart rate dropped to 45bpm they gave me some intravenous fluid. I had not had anything to eat or drink since Friday..... so they start IV fluid and baby's heart rate comes up..... after two days of struggling to give birth to my baby the midwife asks me what pain relief I would want?  Seriously? Literally my words were ... please just kill me....

So after an epidural I could not feel any more pains.... but there was another dip in the heart rate for my baby .... so they announced a code for it but it revived with further IV RESUSCITATION. ... and we are now in Sunday morning.... 7am Sunday morning my temperature rose to 42. 8 degrees Celsius (high grade fever) where they rushed me to the OTHER and started explaining to me how urgent it was to deliver the baby..like for heavens sake.

Eventually they used forceps.... cut my vagina and bruised my baby while taking him out.... and I lost 1800ml of blood.... and then baby was admitted for 5 days for antibiotics....I think all of the problems could have been prevented..... but I felt like they were forced upon me and my child.... and till now after 12 months I am on medications for my joints and suffer from other sets of problems.....
