"My son's birth"

About: Rotherham Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I called maternity when my contractions were coming every 2-3 minutes and I was told, as I had only been in pain for 90 minutes and it was my first baby, I needed to stay at home and wait another hour before calling. Just after putting the phone down my waters broke so I called them back and said I was on my way.

When I got there I was in a wheelchair as the pain was so bad I couldn't walk, the midwife when I got there asked what was I doing in that?

After being examined I was 10cm and just minutes later I was pushing and my son arrived not long after.

After I gave birth I haemorrhaged and had to be rushed to theatre and put to sleep. I needed three blood transfusions and lost 2000ml of blood. If I had listened to the person on the phone I would have given birth at home and lost all that blood at home! I may well have died at home as well!
