Monday: ring GP surgery for urgent appointment. Receptionist puts doctor on phone; who calls me in at once, makes diagnosis, calls ambulance. In hospital assessment, all necessary procedures, including blood transfusion, co-ordinate to make way for gastroscopy next morning before the schedule of operations starts.
Tuesday. gastroscopy done by surgeon with team of three closely co-ordinated; bleeding gastric ulcer clipped shut, all in ten minutes. One hour later an excellent lunch!
Wednesday: all necessary procedures co-ordinate to discharge me with a box of medication.
A symphony of disciplines working in close harmony to reach a successful conclusion, and all done with courtesy, kindness and efficiency. Absolutely brilliant.
