"I felt like an inconvenience"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

After injuring myself at work during a nightshift I was taken to a and e for treatment. I saw the assessment nurse who was fine, and after a couple of hours wait saw the doctor.

The doctor's attitude in general was very glum, almost like they just didn't want to be there and couldn't be bothered. Also I had the impression that to the doctor I was very much an inconvenience.

The doctor made in my opinion a very quick and not very thorough attempt at cleaning the wound before asking for a supervisors advice on the best form of treatment i.e glue or stitches. It was decided that glue was the way to go so after roughly sticking a bit of glue on my cut, slapped a couple of steristrips across it and at that was, at first happy. The doctor also stuck their glove fingertip to the glue which then had to be pulled off.

I questioned whether or not the wound needed a bit more dressing at which they agreed and wrapped a dressing around the thumb with a piece of fabric plaster to hold it. Antibiotics were then given to me and I left.

On the whole I thought I was in the way, an inconvenience and if that was the case I am very sorry. I am a first aider myself and know about cleaning and dressing and believe a little TLC would have been beneficial.
