"Unfunctional booking system"

About: General Practices in Liverpool

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

"I am completing this review based on my most recent experience of booking an appointment and attending an appointment with the a nurse today. It would be helpful if reception staff advised patients of changes and said that 'they would look into things' instead of blankety saying ' yes that should be fine' to questions.

I booked an appointment for a flu injection, which I have had in the past at the surgery. The nurse said I wasn't entitled to the injection, I explained it was because of my line of work. Her reply was to say 'I work with people and I'm not entitled', which is not helpful.

I had also asked when booking the appointment if I could have a repeat prescription of contraception in the same appointment. Reception said 'yes, that's fine'. The nurse said 'no, you need to see a dr. I thought you just wanted the injection'. I said I usually see a nurse for repeat contraception prescriptions. The nurse offered to see if she could get me an appointment to see the dr, I was annoyed because I planned things around this appointment on my day off work, and said so. The nurse replied; 'I work too'. I left her room after saying I thought she was very unhelpful"

I suggest that the next time the nurse calls a receptionist over to talk about a patient, she do that discretely, as it became obvious they were taking about me, as the receptionist turned around to look at me. It's ironic that in the past the receptionist appeared to make it almost impossible to get an appointment stating how busy the surgery is, can I suggest that you don't waste people's time by giving wrong information at the point of contact, leading to the need to rebook appointments'.
