I arrived for my first appointment today at 14.15 for 14.30 appointment. I ended up walking out, when I hear people in the overcrowded confined waiting room, complaining on how long they have been waiting. I asked staff what the delay time was. At least 45 minutes! I asked my Dr to refer me as I was concerned of a spot on my neck, which would not heal after some 7 weeks. I had cancer of the tongue removed about ten years ago, so naturally worried of a reoccurance on my neck. I had already been on a separate hospital appointment this morning, also kept waiting longer than expected, for a different medical issue. So I was very anxious to be seen at the Dermatologist today but not to be told the waiting time was a least 45 minutes. I have had experience of NHS waiting times over run many times at previous different appointments, which I have received written apologies following formal complaints about this. Today has proved greatly how stressed the NHS still remains. But my patients has run over as I am too stressed to wait in a confined overcrowded wairing room, not knowing how long I really would have had to wait to be seen. I return home, anxious, stressed out and still worried that my neck has not been looked at to determine if there is a reoccurance of cancer. I just give up with this system.
