"Concerned by care of my wife"

About: Warwick Hospital / Respiratory medicine

(as a relative),

My wife was admitted 2 weeks ago following GP referral due to respiratory issues. The initial care in the assessment unit and virtually all the care in Mary Ward has been excellent. Friendly, caring nursing staff and very professional. Procedures and tests done quickly and efficiently.

Sadly this has been undermined by events in the last 2 days. A blood test done on Friday afternoon was not dealt with or reviewed on Saturday. Today we learnt by asking that the result was sat on file all yesterday. We still do not know if the test means my wife can go home or when arrangements for that will be made.

The consultant appears to have 'blanked' my wife for the last two days. Other patients have had blood tests taken and returned within hours. My wife is sat, ever more stressed, due to sloppy follow-up and an uncommunicative consultant. This is affecting her mental wellbeing, and mine.

Just not good enough.
