"Worried patient, no answers, no tests"

About: Furness General Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

First of all I am a 50 year old patient and I've have had two procedures to look into my colon first one showing polyps that had to be removed along with severe diverticular disease these where done in 2011 at age 45. The second two years later and after taking the prep ended up in hospital with a severe allergic and went into anaphylactic shock but the procedure was done the following day to show the diverticular had got worse ..

Now in 2016 with months of bleeding and lower stomach pains I was brought into hospital to have more prep ( admitted inpatient to make sure of no further allergic reactions ) but after sitting on day unit and no correspondence between Nursing staff and specialist on how the prep should be given and being sat without food from 8am until 3pm and no food I was told it was too late to be given and sent home, I was told I would have to come back ..

So two weeks later I was readmitted for the prep at 8am stated prep at 10am and small yogurt to eat and as much as I could drink in water no food then until following day at tea time so over 24 hours ..the following day I started to feel unwell my blood sugars had gone low ( diabetic so maybe due to no food) so given a gluco drink but then my temperature peaked ..It is then I was told by a nurse I won't be able to have the colonoscopy sadly I had another allergic reaction . They had never heard of this happening so wasn't willing to carry out the procedure, I was to be kept in overnight for the second night and allowed to eat by this time it was over 24 hours without food.

The following day the nurses on the day unit was trying to get answers to if I could be discharged the hours ticking by and lots of phone calls trying to get a dr on the ward to see me ( for that I am thankful) eventually at 5: 30 one nurse went of the ward to go and see if the doctor was in their office and yes sure enough they were and just about to leave ...I then got to see the doctor and they apologised saying they had forgot about me and was discharged 6pm on the 3rd day .. No nearer finding any answers to why I'm in so much pain and losing blood. ( Fact lots of blood beetroot in colour).

I then get a letter stating phone endoscopy to make an appointment to be told we don't know what to do with you as nothing has been written down I then had to tell them that during my last admission the doctor had said they would sort a CT scan out and sigmoidoscopy.. I think part of this might be due to the pressure the doctors are under and how busy they are ( every time we come to clinic the waiting time is two hours then you’re not listened to and rushed out ) ..

So I'm at home worried something sinister is happening and yet getting nowhere with answers or results so my experience with FGH is not very good and just hope nothing is happening that should have been sorted out quicker. I am a regular patient at Preston Royal due to Brain/ CNS inflammation and never had this mess before so think FGH needs a very good sort out on all departments.
