About: St Helier Hospital / Maternity

But late on leaving my reviewI gave birth to my son on September 8th 2015 I had all my appointments at the hospital and mention several times of pain in my ribs and they fobbed me off with baby kicking me etc when I eventually went into hospital on 7th September as my waters broke staff where bickering over whether or not to keep me in as my contractions where becoming very strong and then disappearing for hours I had one brilliant midwife who fought for me to keep me in and the second their shift was over another midwife sent me home within one hour of being out of hospital I was back on the ward ...i was left there from 10pm to 3am without anyone checking my dilation no one listening to me about my ribs (bearing in mind I've had 2 children before so I know my body )Well when 3am came I got the need to push so I called a midwife and asked them to check my dilation when they finally checked they had to rush me for an ultrasound because my son was bum first (his head and his feet by his ears stuck under my ribs where the cause of my pain for the last 2 months of my pregnancy) they then decided to give me time to decide if I wanted natural or cesarean it was hard enough to think of the fact my baby could possibly be in a dangerous position let alone the fear of a cesarean when you are totally needle phobic and won't even let a dentist near you

When the doc came back to find out my decision 51 minutes later I was already pushing my son out of me bum 1st with his cord wrapped around his neck Luckily the midwifes in my actual room where brilliant compared to the ones on the wards and my son was thankfully born semi safely he had to have help with his breathing because of the cord and now still suffers with swollen lymph nodes around his whole neck (cause unknown) I have had all 3 of my children there and can safely say I will not be considering this hospital for any future children I may have

Thank you very much for taking the time to raise these issues with us, which we are deeply concerned to hear. We will pass this feedback to the Head of Midwifery so that she can speak to her team about it.
