"Bleeding in pregnancy, pre-eclampsia and cesarean"

About: Southmead Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

At around 14 weeks I started bleeding and had the start of high blood pressure and as I'm rhs negative I needed an anti d injections so needed to be seen. Cotswold ward were amazing the first time I had a scan by one of the Dr's at 4am just to put my mind at rest, I think I must of had about 10 bleeding episodes after that and everytime they got ruder and ruder one of the Dr's even told me not to ring them again even though I was told by nhs 111 to ring them direct. And that is the only early pregnancy clinic at southmead.

At around 20weeks I was put on medication for high blood pressure. Anti natal clinic are amazing extra growth scans and monthly joint renal and anti natal clinic as it was thought I had a underlying kidney problem but that couldn't be tested until baby was delivered. Finally at 36weeks I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia so was admitted had further test but they said they wouldn't deliver baby yet as levels were good. So as I have 2 other young children I discharged myself with medical advice.

At 38 weeks I went back to tell them my decision on whether or not to have a cesarean as baby was breech. I had to be admitted again because of the pre-eclampsia. I was told they would deliver baby on a friday. Now this is when it gets silly I was nil by mouth for 24hours as baby was delivered in the small hours of Saturday morning and being 38weeks pregnant that was awful I was very dehydrated I was put on the monitor about 10 times that day due to lack of movements. I was then put saline drip which stopped working my partner went to see a midwife numerous times but none of them seemed to know what was going on. At 11. 30pm I was took up to theater under the circumstances they treated me the best way possible and I can say that was the best part of my whole stay at southmead.

After the operation I was on recovery for a few hours the midwife was lovely, but then I was taken to Mendip ward which was ridiculous I spent nearly 4 days after my c section pretty much alone and the only person who really helped was this very special care assistant don't get me wrong the midwifes we're good attentive when it came to pain relief during the day but that was pretty much it but when you find out there's 1 midwife to 15 women you don't seem too surprised anymore. This is neglect in my eyes if I was a first time mum I would of been in an state recovering from that awful surgery and looking after a newborn. The amount of times I struggled to pick my baby up in agony because nobody came is unreal just hope no one else has to go through this! ! !
