What I liked

The medical staff were polite and good at their jobs on the assesment ward.

What could be improved

Communication between different depts withi the hospital and all things relevent to my fathers treatment or recomendations to possible further treatment logged in his ward notes ect.

My father was admitted to your A&E by ambulance, and was transferred to the assetment ward for treatment & tests etc. It was during this period he was seen by a cardiac team with the cardiac registrain attendance. He was told in front of my brother that he had defective heart valves & one was getting smaller and needed an urgent operation to try to repair it or he would die much sooner with out it. He was also told that there was a risk to his life during the operation, but he signed a consent form for it to go ahead. The next day he was told that he was being discharged with no explanation regarding what was said by the cardiac team. On visiting him on that day I managed to talk to a ward doctor, who informed me that there was no mention of this conversation with the cardiac team and the cardiac consultant had said he could be discharged when the medical team was ready to release him. The doctor also told me that any desion regarding my concerns as to the speed & lack of consultation regarding what had been said the previous day by the visiting cardiac team to discaharge him was final and that was that. My family is not happy with the way this has been handled & I would like to know why the cardiac consultant has seen fit to allow my father to be discharged after being told about the need to have an urgent operation etc. I await your comprehensive reply. Thank you for letting us know about what happened to your father. It does sound very confusing and concerning, which is why we want to have what has happened investigated.

Indeed we know that following your comments, the matter already is being looked in to by the cardiology team so that you getthe answers to your questions. But to help us do that as thoroughly as we would like, we will need some further information from you and your brother.
