"Not kept informed by Charing Cross Hospital"

About: Charing Cross Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as other),

My partner was taken to A & E in January 2010 with a mild stroke. When I left about 8pm he was in fine form.

I rang the next day to find out if he would be coming home and to tell the staff that I would be going down to collect him. I was told he would not be coming home that day but that was all I was told.

I arrived at Charing Cross at about 2.45pm and was told he was having a scan and I could wait in the day room until he came back up to the ward.

It was almost 6pm (3 hours later) when I was told he'd had a massive stroke in hospital that morning and it would be touch and go as to whether he survived or not. The hospital had my phone number but did not bother to phone and let me know what had happened.

Unfortunately he passed away 5 days after admission. I do feel Charing Cross could have made a phone call to let me know what had happened that morning instead of letting me wait 3 hours to be told the shocking news.
