"Repair of thoracic aortic aneurysm"

About: Royal Stoke University Hospital / Cardiothoracic surgery

(as a relative),

My mum had attended a pre-op for a hip replacement at her local hospital when the team found that she had a 6cm thoracic aortic aneurysm. She was referred to cardiothoracic surgeon Mr Balacumaraswami at the Royal Stoke Hospital and subsequently underwent multiple tests and finally what turned out to be a 12 hour operation to repair the aneurysm.

The aneurysm was a lot worse than first thought and it is only thanks to Mr Balacumaraswami's amazing skill that my mum is alive today. He also managed to repair the aortic valve which had been damaged by the aneurysm without the need to replace it.

She was reviewed every day by the consultant and his team and was finally discharged three weeks later feeling better than she had in years.

Thank you so much from our whole family.

Thank you very much for taking the time to comment on your Mum's experience at our hospital. I am so pleased to read that she has recovered well from such a worrying and stressful time.

I will share your kind words with the Cardiothoracic Team who I know will appeciate your lovely feedback.

Thank you again.
