"I had an excellent experience ..."

About: Dewsbury & District Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I had an excellent experience having had a very poor experience with my first child. My planned home birth was cancelled due to complications at the end of my pregnancy and I ended up having an emergency c section. Everyone tried to ensure I had a natural birth but due to my child's distress a section was necessary. The anaesthetists were fantastic and helped me deal with everything that happened. After my section, the staff on the postnatal ward were fantastic and really looked after me taking my son away to give me a bit of sleep when he was struggling to adjust. When he became ill and was moved to neonatal 36 hours after his birth I was given a private room and able to stay in the hospital long after my personal need to stay in was over allowing me to breast feed my son. When I had difficulty getting down to neonatal in the middle of the night to feed him, they wheeled me down and back. at every point I was treated with every courtesy and consideration and could not have received better treatment anywhere.

What could be improved

The distance between the neonatal ward and postnatal is far too much for a mum who has just had a c-section.

Anything else?

Thank you to everyone involved in my care
