What I liked
Yet again I am in awe of the skills we have here on our Island at St Mary's hospital. I underwent a Vitrectomy eye operation in the Day Theatre and I write this to re assure any other person awaiting such a procedure which reading the booklet supplied with graphic detail causes a gasp or two to self and relatives!
I was in the care of the finest team imaginable.
From the moment of entering the day theatre I was cossetted by the nurse and felt totally relaxed by the time that the anaesthestist spoke to me in a truly comforting manner. He said "I will look after you" and I knew he would. my consultant has given me confidence from the first appointment I had many months ago, As if this wasn't enough I then had this lovely young man say he too would take care of me. I know that it is generally accepted that once the medication clicks in that is it until those lovely words from the nurse, you are back on the ward, coffee? toast?
One just cannot thank these skilled people enough. They hold your life in their hands and they take care of it. I give them my humble thanks and thank God for giving them such awesome gifts.
We are so lucky on the Island to have this facility.
What could be improved
The actual day theatre waiting/preparation area is always so cold. Is there a reason for this?
My sincere and humble thanks to the consultant/surgeon and team
the anethetist, and the theatre practioner nurse for their awesome skills, kindness and patience towards me with my Vitrectomy operation 4th May. They held my life and sight in their hands, We are so lucky to have such skills here on our little Island at St Mary's Hospital.
