"The nurses were accomodating as ..."

About: Wexham Park Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

The nurses were accomodating as we visited outside of hours.

What could be improved

After visiting our father in the hospital we left feeling firstly, worried for his wellbeing in terms of cleanliness and secondly, concerned about our own safety and what germs we had been exposed too. We visited him and even after leaving hours ago ,are feeling shocked about the condition of the entire hospital. He is on the ground floor near a window, overlooking a brick wall and a wooden panel over the window (preventing any views of the 'outside world'). Their was no opportunity to open a window and the smell was absolutely putrid. It smelt of a combination of human excriment and vomit. I really felt for any patient having to use the toilet and shower facilities where the smell was 'wofting' from. This smell flowed through the entire ward and on arrival it was so terrible we were in shock that anyone could actually 'get well' in an enviroment like this. There was a comode left by the bed which didn't look clean and cobwebs handing from the windows.

After an hour we left and promtly drove home with the car windows open to try and get over feeling slightly green. We then felt compeled to wash all we were wearing and to carefully wash our hands. It was truly awful.

We just feel for our father and the other patients left on the dirty ward. I feel spores from the toilet door which was left open are more than likley to be spreading all around the ward including the food preparation area and open drinks. Not nice at all and we can't wait for Dad to get out. If it was down to us, we would discharged him, it's a health hazard being in Wexham Park hospital and you are more than likely going to come out worse off.

It's simply not a place which is condusive to getting well.
